Students Win Excellence in Accounting Scholarships

The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) and its Foundation for Accounting Education recently announced that St. John Fisher College students Sarah Bihl '12 and Andrew Goodlein '12 received the 2011 Excellence in Accounting Scholarships. The scholarships were awarded to 44 students statewide.

Established in 1990, the scholarships are supported by contributions from the statewide membership of the NYSSCPA. The funds provide financial assistance to encourage and aid deserving candidates who plan to enter the accounting profession.

The scholarships award $2,500 for full-time study and $1,250 for part-time study, and are based on both financial need and merit. Recipients must have declared a major in accounting in a New York State college or university that offers a state-registered accounting program. They must have an overall cumulative average of 3.0 or higher and must meet additional requirements.

Representing more than 28,000 CPAs, the NYSSCPA is the oldest state accounting organization in the nation. Incorporated in 1897, the Society is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to establish and maintain high standards of integrity, honor, and character among certified public accountants. Its members are CPAs working in public firms, industry, government and academia in a state that serves as the home of Wall Street and major financial institutions.
