Sweatshop Workers Speak Out on Campus, February 7

01/30/2013

On Thursday, February 7, the Ethics Minor Program at St. John Fisher College will host Honduran and Haitian garment workers for a talk about their working conditions in sweatshops. Their talk will take place beginning at 12:15 p.m. in Basil 135.

A worker from Honduras will share stories of barriers she and her co-workers faced when organizing to improve the working conditions in their factory. And a worker from Haiti will speak about her union’s struggle to force her employer to honor a nationwide minimum wage increase.

Other event sponsors include SweatFree Communities, the Labor Religion Coalition of New York State, and United Students Against Sweatshops.
