Ricca Presents at Mathematics Conference

11/08/2011

Dr. Bernard Ricca, Director of the Graduate Program in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education, recently presented a paper at the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State (AMTNYS) Conference, which took place in Rochester in late October.

Ricca’s presentation, “Developing Reasoning in Algebra,” was a hands-on workshop that helped teachers find ways to develop reasoning skills in their own students, using approaches to topics that are already in their curriculum.

In addition, two GMST students presented at the conference. Courtney Ariola presented, “Exploring the Idea of Transfer of Understanding While Exploring Fractions,” and Heidi King presented, “The Truth Behind Geometric Constructions.” Both students received assistance with their presentations from Beth Walker, a graduate of the GMST program.
