McCarthy is Featured Speaker at Niagara County Historical Society Event

On Saturday, February 5, the Niagara County Historical Society held its biennial "Soup to Story" event, featuring local authors. St. John Fisher College's own Director of Safety and Security, Mike McCarthy, also the author of From Cork to the New World, served as the guest speaker.

He presented an overview of the Peter Robinson Settlement Project, which is the background of his book – a novel based on the true story of his immigrant family. About 50 people attended the popular event.

The book is filled with the Irish love of song, music and dance. The central figures deal with tragedies, and as McCarthy shares, "never a day is taken for granted." Through all the joys and trials, the spirit of these immigrant families remained strong.

McCarthy is a Niagara County native, born in Lockport.
