M.S. in International Studies Mission & Objectives

Mission

The aim of the Master of Science program in International Studies is to prepare qualified students for senior leadership and staff positions. This occurs through a course of study that instills a professional mastery of current and emerging global issues. The program stresses the development of proficiency in policy analysis, research techniques and communication skills through the application of theory to practice. The 21st century workplace demands an increased knowledge of international affairs. In business, education and public policy, the necessity of including global considerations in all aspects of instruction and decision making is increasingly apparent. It is the intent of this program to serve students seeking to develop careers in these fields.

Objectives

This program aims to:

  • Prepare students for employment and advancement in environments that require an executive level of understanding of international affairs.
  • Offer advanced study and research for students either currently teaching or preparing to teach disciplines that require a global perspective.
  • Provide current and prospective government and not-for-profit organization employees with the necessary cultural context and analytical skills to perform effectively in their jobs.
  • Assist interested students in pursuing advanced study at the doctoral level.
