English Students to Present Essays at National Conference
A group of English majors will be presenting at the 2011 Susquehanna Literature and Creative Writing Undergraduate Conference in Selinsgrove, PA on February 20. They are Sarah Christy, Samantha Maley, Tricia Potocki, and John Pray – all members of the Class of 2011. The theme of the conference is "Literature and Creativity in a Digital Age."
Each student submitted a personal infographics essay, which is a new genre in which an essay can be written. An infographics essay conveys its content in a different, more accessible fashion than the traditional written-word essay.
The essay topics will include: an analysis of 2,000 photographs from a study-abroad semester; factors from LifeMetric.com relating to mood; places the student has visited and lived; and everything the student read in the course of one month.
Undergraduates from Susquehanna and other universities around the country share their scholarly and creative work at this annual conference. Panels of three or four students are organized around various literary themes and cultural issues. After reading their work aloud, student panelists and the audience of aspiring writers, teachers, and scholars join in a discussion.
Panels run throughout the day, interspersed with a lecture or reading by a nationally acclaimed literary scholar or writer.
