04/09/2012

Two students in St. John Fisher College’s English program have been named winners of the highly competitive Regional Playwright Festival, sponsored by Geva Theatre and Writers and Books, for their one-act plays.

Grisell Buide’s one-act play, “Dream, Tim,” and Andrew Passafiume’s play, “Circles,” were named as winners, and were written in M.J. Iuppa’s Creative Writing and Drama class in the fall of 2011. Both students will be graduating in May.

Their plays, along with two other one-act plays, will be read in a staged reading in Geva’s Nextstage Theater on Monday, April 30, at 6:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling Geva Theatre at (585) 232-4382.

The purpose of the Regional Playwrights Festival is to give promising local writers a chance to hear their work performed. It features many noteworthy new works, showcasing a range of regional talent. The festival is open to writers from Monroe, Livingston, Wayne, Ontario, and Genesee counties.
