Mashup Winners Announced
The winners of St. John Fisher College's first Mashup Competition were announced at a special event on Friday, April 15, that included a viewing of the finalist videos and a panel discussion with several faculty members.
The first place winner was Communication/Journalism major Lauren Hoffman for her video, "Mermaid in the 8 Mile Rain." And the second place winners were Communication/Journalism majors Kaitlyn Chase and Jenna Huether for their video, "Mail Story." In the Student Choice Winner category, there was a tie, and the two honored students were Applied Information Technology and English major Michael Maether and Communication/Journalism major Paul Williams. Maether's video was entitled "Phil Davison: Inspirational Speaker," and Williams' video was entitled "A Day Without Internet." The contest had a total of 23 submissions.
The evening included a presentation of the documentary film, "RiP!: A Remix Manifesto." The panel discussion focused on mashups and copyright and was moderated by Dr. Rik Hunter, assistant professor of English. The panelists were Dr. Steve Brauer, associate dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, Professor Jeremy Sarachan of the Communication/Journalism Department, and Dr. Todd Sodano, assistant professor of Communication/Journalism.
The event was sponsored by the Digital Cultures and Technologies, English, and Communication/Journalism Departments.
