Life Online/Life Offline - Call for Video Submissions!
The Digital Cultures & Technologies Committee is looking for submissions for its 2011 Video Mashup Contest, which will celebrate student creativity with digital media. The contest theme is "Life Online/Life Offline."
Individuals or groups can submit mashup videos by March 23 to be considered for a prize. A mashup is "the combination of multiple sources of video—which usually have no relation with each other—into a derivative work, often lampooning its component sources or another text" (Wikipedia).
The committee of Digital Cultures and Technologies faculty will judge the entries using the following criteria:
- Creative, sophisticated use of existing material for new purposes
- Quality of technical aspects, design and structure
- Ability to engage a variety of audiences
- Relevance to the theme
There will also be an online poll to choose a "Student Choice" winner.
Participants will have a chance at winning cash prizes; $100 for first place and $50 for both second place and the Student Choice Award. Winners will be announced and screened at a mashup event on April 15.
Contest rules and submission guidelines can be found on the Digital Cultures and Technologies website.
