Student Employees of the Year Announced

On Thursday, April 14, three students received the Mary Ellen Milne Student Employee of the Year award during a luncheon to recognize all of the nominated students.

Kelsey Krueger, Miguel Matos, and Kaitlin Tanner all received the honor, which is given to students who successfully complete assigned tasks, produce quality work, are dependable and knowledgeable of their jobs, work independently, and have exceptional communication skills.

Krueger, nominated by Thomas Racculia in the Office of Freshmen Admissions Office, has worked in the Office of Freshman Admissions for the past three years. She has supervised the student-to-student calling program and assisted in daily office activities including reaching out to prospective students, campus tours, and training new employees.

She was selected to travel with the admissions team to two merit receptions to serve as the student speaker on behalf of the College. According to Racculia, her role as the student-to-student calling program supervisor is crucial to recruitment efforts.

In his nomination letter, Racculia said, Krueger's "professionalism while communicating with the College's administration, as well as with prospective students and their families, is remarkable. Her leadership abilities are evident and extremely valuable to our office."

Dr. Theresa Westbay nominated Matos, who is the clerical assistant in the Biology Department where he has worked for three years. His main duties involve assisting the department chair with data entry, filing, organizing, and gathering information from department members. Westbay said Matos is dependable and professional in all of his interactions, and is pleasant to be around. She also noted his trustworthiness, as he has handled confidential and sensitive material in an appropriate manner.

Westbay said Matos is someone who is "enthusiastic, takes tremendous pride in his work," and that he recognizes how his actions reflect on the department, which always made him strive to do his best. She also noted that Matos not only held this position, but had an internship off campus this semester, showing his ability to juggle a packed schedule and honor his commitments.

Tanner was nominated by Dr. Bob Costigan, and has worked in the Management Department for the last four semesters as a research assistant. For the past year, she has worked with Dr. Costigan as well as Dr. Kyle Brink, assisting them with qualitative research related to AACSB-accredited business schools. She searched over 500 accredited school websites, identifying specific learning goals and Carnegie Classifications.

Costigan said her "overall performance was exemplary this academic year," and that she "showed a great deal of determination and persistence" in her work. In addition, he noted that her success as a research assistant is due to her strong aptitude. He plans on acknowledging her work in the article he is publishing.

In his nomination letter, Costigan said, "In my 21 years at St. John Fisher, I have never had a student assistant who is as qualified as Kaitlin Tanner."

During the luncheon, six students received Honorable Mention:
