Rice Publishes Article
Mark Rice, Professor and Chair of American Studies at St. John Fisher College, has an article appearing in the fall 2011 issue of Education About Asia.
The article is entitled, "Dean Worcester's Photographs and American Perceptions of the Philippines." Rice argues that Dean Worcester, a zoologist and photographer who served as the Secretary of the Interior in the United States colonial government in the Philippines from 1901 to 1913, was able to use his photographs to influence American public perceptions of the Philippines. He continues on to say Worcester used this tactic in order to promote his political agenda of the United States maintaining control of the Philippines.
